 ドイツに出張中のお友だち二人ととオランダのマーストリヒトで待ち合わせ。ヨーロッパ出張の時は声をかけてくれるので今回で3回目です。
マーストリヒトはオランダ最古の都市。ベルギー、ドイツとも近く、隣国の影響を受けながら発展した町です。
I met 2 friends on a business trip to Germany at Maastricht in the Netherlands. Whenever they come to Europe for a business trip, they invite me to a trip . This trip is the third times. Maastricht is the oldest town in the Netherlands. It's close to Belgium and Germany and developed under the influence of a neighboring countries. |

 現在のレンガ造りの建物は1913年に建てられました。ブラッセル中央駅からリエージュ駅まで1時間、乗り換えて国境を越えてマーストリヒト駅まで30分。意外に近いなぁ。
The current, brick building was built in 1913. It takes 1 hour from Brussels central station to Liege station, and then we change the train there and cross the border. It takes 30 minutes from Liege to Maastricht railway station. It is closer than ecpected. |

英国ガーディアン紙が「世界一美しい本屋」と紹介しました。
It's a book store using an old church.
In 2008, British newspaper The Guardian proclaimed "Boekhandel Dominicanen" the world's most beautiful bookshop.

 本屋さんを出て「フライトホフ広場」へ。
広場に面してたつのは「聖セルファース教会」(右）と「聖ヤンス教会」（左）。ここで観光案内所で教えてもらったマーストリヒトの郷土料理が食べられるレストランを探しました。
We left the book store and came to "Vrijthof".
"Saint Servatius Basilica"(right) and "Saint John's Church"(left) are faced on the square. We looked for the local cuisine restaurant which we were told at the tourist information. |

 マルクト広場にある市庁舎。1659年から1664年にかけて建てられました。正面にある階段は建設当時対立していた二つの勢力（公国と司教）がそれぞれ専用に使うために左右に分けて造られました。
The town hall is located at the market square. It was built between 1659 and 1664. The stairs in front of the building was made right anf left separately because two opposed powers (Dukedom and bishop) wanted to exclusively use them. |

 マルクト広場から灯用ガスの発明者である「Minckeleers」(1748-1824)像と13世紀の終わりに建てられ15世紀に修復された「Sint-Matthiaskerk」教会。
"The statue of Jean-Pierre Minckelers(1748-1824)", who was an inventor of illuminating gas, and "Sint-Matthiaskerk", built in the end of the 13th century and renovated in the 15th century, are seen from the market square. |

 オランダ最古の石の橋「聖セルファース橋」です。ローマ人が西暦50年頃ミューズ川に木製の橋を架けました。現在の橋は1280年から98年にかけて造られています。
"St. Servatius Bridge" has been called the oldest stone footbridge in the Netherlands. The Romans built a wooden bridge across the Meuse in approximately AD 50. The present bridge was built between 1280 and 1298. |

 いつもはこんな感じ。車は走りません。橋は1680年と1930年代初期に修復されました。第2次大戦中の1944年にドイツ軍がオランダから退却する際に橋は大きな損害を受けましたが、1948年に修復されました。
It's an everyday scenery. Cars don't run here. The bridge was renovated in 1680 and the early 1930s. During World War II the bridge was severely damaged by the German army as they retreated from the Netherlands in 1944, but it was rebuilt in 1948. |

 駅に向かいます。彫刻はオランダの彫刻家Frans Carlier（ロッテルダム、1943年生）の「De Wiekeneer」。

 この交差点を渡ると駅は目の前。子供のキリストを抱いた聖母マリアを表したマリア記念碑です。街の4人の司教（Servatius, Lambert, Monulphus, Hubert）が各隅に立っています。1956年に製作されました。リエージュ経由でブラッセルに戻ります。楽しい一日をありがとうございました。
When I crossed the street at the crossing, I was going to arrive at the station soon. It's Mariamonument which depicts Mary with the infant Jesus in her arms. The four bishops of the city, Servatius, Lambert, Monulphus and Hubert, stand on the corners. It was created in 1956. I was going back to Brussels via Liege. Thank you for a fun day. |
