I visited "Memling museum" in Bruges to see "The Shrine of St. Ursula", one of "7 Belgian treasures". I have seen all 7 treasures by this visit. I was just in time. |

 12世紀からある「聖ヨハネ施療院」の建物を利用した美術館です。この病院は中世の間に大きくなり、病気の巡礼者や旅行者を世話する場所となりました。その後、この場所は男性・女性の修道院としても拡張されました。1978年に病院としての機能を止め、今はメムリンク美術館、病院博物館、旧薬局となっています。
This museum is part of "The St.John's Hospital complex" founded in the mid-12th century. The hospital grew during the Middle Ages and was a place where sick pilgrims and travelers were cared for. The site was later expanded with the building of a monastery and convent. In 1978 it lost its function as hospital and harbors now the Memling museum, the hospital museum and the old pharmacy. |

 こちらが「七大秘宝」のひとつ「聖ウルスラの聖遺物箱」。これは聖ウルスラの祭日のみに公開される彼女の聖遺物の入れ物です。聖遺物は1489年11月22日、厳粛に箱に納められました。
It is "The Shrine of St. Ursula", one of "7 Belgian treasures". It was a container for Saint Ursula's relics which was shown publicly only in her feast day. The relics were solemnly put in the shrine on 21 November 1489. |

メムリンクの最高傑作と言われています。2つのアーケードの下の側面には同時代の教会のステンドグラスのスタイルに類似した聖ウルスラの一生と殉教の6場面となっています。左から「バーゼル帰還」「ケルンでの襲撃」「聖ウルスラの殉教」。

At the sides, under two small arcades, are six scenes of the life and martyrdom of St. Ursula, which resemble the style of the stained glasses in contemporary churches.  三連祭壇画の「聖カタリナの秘密の結婚」。
1479年に作られ、病院の教会の主祭壇のために描かれました。中央のパネルでは子供のキリストを抱いた聖母マリアがシエナの聖カタリナの指に指輪をはめています。聖母マリアの右側に座っているのはアレクサンドラの聖カタリナです。左側のパネルにはサロメの命令で首を切られた預言者ヨハネの人生が描かれています。右側のパネルには福音書書記官・聖ヨハネによって語られた黙示録が描かれています。
Triptych, "Altarpiece of Saint-John the Baptist and Saint-John the Evangelist"
It was made in 1479 and painted for the main altar in the church of the hospital. In the central panel is the Holy Virgin holding the child Jesus. Jesus puts a ring around the finger of Saint Catherine of Sienna. The woman sitting on the right of the Holy Virgin is Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The left side panel shows the story of Saint John the Baptist who was decapitated by order of Salome. The right side-panel illustrates the Apocalypse as told by Saint-John the Evangelist. |

 「薬局」。
ブルージュはベルギーの中でいちばん人気の観光地。外は大勢の人が歩いていますが、ここは静かな美術館です。この1634年に設立された病院内薬局は1971年まで使われました。家具は主に17-18世紀のものです。この歴史的薬局は分配用机、薬瓶や他の入れ物、乳鉢を入れた棚、石膏入れ、毒物入れや他の棚が完全に当時の雰囲気と共に保存されています。これに加え内部にある多くのものは当時の状態のまま保存されています。

Bruges is the most popular tourists site in Belgium. Many people are walking outside, although here is a quiet museum. This hospital pharmacy founded in 1634 remained in use until 1971. The furnishings date largely from the 17th and 18th centuries. The historic pharmacy, complete with dispensing-table, shelves containing pharmacists' jars and other receptacles, mortars, plaster-chest, poison-chest and simplicia cabinet, has been fully preserved together with its own original atmosphere. In addition to this, many of the objects that belong to the interior have been preserved in situ. |
