 「フランスのサンティアゴ・デ・コンポステーラの巡礼路」の一部として世界遺産に登録されている大聖堂がある町を訪ねました。火山地帯なので街中に隆起した岩山が多く見られ、この大聖堂も岩山の上に建てられています。
We visited the town with the cathedral which has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1998, as part of the "Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France". Many raised rocky montains are seen because this area is a volcanic one and the cathedral stands on a rocky montain. |

 大聖堂は街の一番高いところにあります。何世紀にもわたって建設され、5世紀から15世紀の建築様式が含まれているため、それぞれの外観を見ることができます。しかし建物の大半は12世紀前半のものです。白い砂岩と黒い角礫岩で縞になっているファサードには60段の階段を上って到着。ここが巡礼路の出発点。
The cathedral forms the highest point of the city. Constructed over centuries, it contains architecture of every period from the 5th century to the 15th, which gives it an individual appearance. The bulk of construction, however, dates from the first half of the 12th century. The facade, striped in courses of white sandstone and black volcanic breccia, is reached by a flight of sixty steps. It's the starting point of pilgrimage. |

 祭壇中央にあるのは「黒い聖母」像。現在の像は17世紀のものです。この像は1794年6月8日に過激な革命主義者によって焼かれた前の像の破壊記念日の1856年6月8日に法王ピウス9世の名においてピュイ司教によって戴冠されました。
"The black Madonna" rests on the center of the high altar. The current statue of the black Madonna dates from the 17th century. It was crowned by the bishop of Puy in the name of Pope Pius IX, June 8, 1856, anniversary of the destruction of the previous effigy, which was burned by the ultra-revolutionaries on June 8, 1794. |

 大聖堂にある「熱病の石 la pierre des fievres」。
3世紀に、病に苦しむ一人の未亡人がこの石の上に聖母マリアの出現を目撃したことから病が治癒したと言う言い伝えがあり、今もこの石の上で病気治癒を祈願するのだそうです。

There is a legend that in the third century, a widowed woman suffering from malignant fever saw the appearance of the Virgin on the slab and got up cured. Even today many people pray for sick leprosy there. |

 これ。ベルギーレースよりちょっと太めのボビンを使っています。ベルギーレースを習ってからヨーロッパ各地のレースを見るのが楽しみになりました。学校もあるというので本を買いたいなと思い行って見ましたが、お休みでした。残念。

 通りの途中にあるタブレ噴水とタブレ広場。噴水は14世紀のもので、19世紀に部分的に破壊また修復されました。まだこの先は下っていますが、このあたりでランチに。
The place des Tables and the fontaine des Tables in the middle of the street. The fountain dates from the 14th century and was partly destroyed and rebuilt in the 19th century. Though the street was further down, we were going to have a kunch around here. |

 このあたりの名物「レンズ豆」を使ったお料理をいただきました。おいしかったです。人気のレストランのようで断られている人がいっぱいいました。
We had a dish using "Le Puy green lentil", specialities if this region. It was tasty. It seemed it was a very popular restaurant and there were a lot of people refused visit. |

 さらに上ると旧市街地のオレンジ色の屋根がいい感じ。
じつは旧市街地はびっくりするほど小さいのですが、新市街も屋根の色をそろえているのでとてもきれい。
When we went up further, we could see wonderful orange roofs of the old town. Though the old city was very small suprisingly, houses of the new city have same coloured roofs. Therefore it was very beautuful. |

 後ろ姿。クリミア戦争中、1855年のセバストポリ包囲戦で押収しネポレオン3世によって寄付された213門の大砲を溶かして1860年に建てられました。2012年末に修復されています。

 小さな広場にあるプロ噴水は13世紀に造られ、18世紀に部分的に破壊され修復されました。噴水後ろの建物の壁にかかった看板はこの街で9月第3週に開催される「鳥の王フェスティバル」の広告です。このイベントは劇、音楽、ダンスといったルネサンスの芸術を祝います。
The fountain of the Plot in the small square, built in the 13th century, partially destroyed and rebuilt in the 18th century. A signboard on the building behind the fountain is the advertising of "The King of the Bird Festival" which is held the third week of September in this town. This event celebrates the arts of the Renaissance: theater, music, dance. |

 1913年から16年にかけて建てられました。ジーザスのお父さんなんだけどあまり表舞台に出てこない印象ですが、ここは主役の教会です。22.4mの高さのある「希望の聖ヨセフ像」は聖ヨセフと子供のキリストが台座に立っている姿を表しています。この像は1910年4月11日厳粛に公開されました。
It was built between 1913 and 1916. Though St. Josepf is Jesus' father, he does not appear on the main stage. However this chursh is dedicated to him. "The Saint-Joseph-de-Bon-Espoir statue", 22.40 meters high, represents St. Joseph and child Jesus standing on a pedestal. It was solemnly inaugurated on April 11, 1910. |

 ここは下から見上げるだけ。礼拝堂には岩に彫られた268段の階段で行く事ができます。1429年にはジャンヌ・ダルクの母、イザベル・ロメが祈るためにここに来たといわれています。
We only looked it up. The chapel is reached by 268 steps carved into the rock. In 1429, the mother of Joan of Arc, Isabelle Romee, was said to have come to the site to pray.

I bought these medeilles at the cathedral.
"The black Madonna" of the cathedral is depicted on the face and a scallop which represents "Santiago de Compostela Cathedral" , the traditional end of the pilgrimage route, is done on the back. |
