月曜日が振り替え休日だったので、連休を利用してナポリへ行ってきました。ブラッセルから飛行機で2時間。ゆっくりめの出発で、ホテル着が3時になりました。早速街歩きです。
ナポリの地下鉄の駅は美しく、特に「トレド」駅は美しいと聞き、まずは「トレド」駅へ。

Monday was a substitute public holidays in Belgium, so we visited Naples using that consecutive holidays. It takes 2 hours from Brussels by airplane. We arrived at the hotel on 3PM because the departure time was late. We began a town walk immediately.
I hear metro stations of Naples, espacially "Toledo" is beautiful, so firstly we come to "Toledo" station.

ナポリ一のショッピングストリート、「トレド通り」。

「プレビシート広場」へ向かう途中にある教会です。元々の教会は1636年に建てられました。再建は1650年代に始まり1759年に完成しました。

It's located on the way to "The Piazza del Plebiscito". The original church was built in 1636. Reconstruction began in mid 1650s and completed in 1759.

広場に到着。「聖パオラのフランチェスコ教会」です。1816年に完成しました。当初ナポリ王ジョアシャン・ミュラ(ナポレオンの義弟)によってナポレオンに捧げるために建てられました。その後ブルボン家がナポリ王家となり建物を教会に変更しました。

We arrived at the square. It's "The church of San Francesco di Paola". It was completed in 1816. Initially it was built by King Joachim Murat of Naples (Napoleon's brother-in-law) for tributing to Napoleon. Subsequently the Bourbons were restored to the throne of Naples and converted the building into the church.

スペイン王フィリペ3世のナポリでの居城として1600年に建築が始まりましたが、この王は一度も住むことはありませんでした。1734年のシャルル3世のナポリ到着と共に18〜19 世紀にナポリ王国を統治したブルボン家の居城となりました。現在は王宮歴史的居住博物館として公開されています。

Intended to house the King Philip III of Spain on a Naples visit, the construction began in 1600, but he never lived there. In 1734, with the arrival of Charles III of Spain to Naples, the palace became the royal residence of the Bourbons which governed The Kingdom of Naples in the 18th and 19th century. It is opened to the public as the palace-historical residence museum.

「階段室」
白い大理石の階段。元々の階段室は1651年から66年にかけて造られました。1837年の建物の火災の後、新階段室が1858年に造られました。

"Honor staircase"
Stairs are made of white marbles. The original staircase was built between 1651 and 1666. Following the fire of the building in 1837, a new staircase was built in 1858.

「宮廷劇場(Teatro di Corte)」。
両シシリー王国王のフェルディナンド1世とハプスブルグ・ロレーヌ家のマリア・カロリーナの婚礼が行われた1768年に建造されました。劇場は第2次大戦中の爆撃でかなりの損害を受け、1950年から54年に修復が行われました。2000年代の2度目の修復後、2012年に再オープンしました。

"Court theater (Teatro di Corte)
It was built on the occasion of the marriage between Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies and Maria Carolina of Hapsburg-Lorraine that in 1768. The theater suffered considerable damage by the bombing during the World War II and restoration work took place between 1950 and 1954. After the second restoration in the 2000s, it was re-opened in 2012.

「控えの間」
王に謁見する外交代表団がここで止められたので「外交官の間」とも呼ばれています。全体がバロック様式で飾られ、天井は1737年から38年にかけて造られました。

"The First Anteroom"
It was also called "Diplomatic Room" because the diplomatic delegations visiting the king were stopping inside. The whole environment is presented in Baroque style and the ceiling was built between 1737 and 1738.

この部屋は何年もの間に数回改装されています。王座は1850年の帝国様式、彫刻・金メッキされた木製でライオンの形をした腕で飾られています。

It has been modified several times over the years. The throne is an Empire style chairs of 1850, carved and gilded wood, decorated with lion-shaped arms.

「ゴブランの間」
元々は大ギャラリーとして多くの絵が飾られていました。しかし1832年にフェルデナンド2世が作品を美術館に移す決定をしたため取り外されました。現在では18世紀のシリーズとなったタペストリーが置かれています。

"The Ambassadors Hall of Maria Cristina"
Originally, the hall was called the Grand Gallery, where many paintings were kept, but they were removed by the decision of Ferdinand II to transfer the works to the museum in 1832. Today the walls are home to a series of tapestries dating back to the 18th century.

ミラノの「ヴィットリオ・エヌマーレ2世のガレリア」ほどの大きさはないものの、こちらも素敵なショッピング・アーケード。1887年から91年にかけて建設され、世界遺産としてユネスコのリストに登録されたネポリ歴史地区の一部です。建設時のイタリア王だったウンベルト1世の名前が付けられました。

It's smaller than "Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II" in Milan, but it's a wonderful shopping gallery as well. It was built between 1887-1891 and is part of the UNESCO listing of the Historic Centre of Naples as a World Heritage Site. The Galleria was named for Umberto I, King of Italy at the time of construction.

「ヌオーヴォ城」に到着。1266年にカルロ1世紀(アンジュー公カルロ)がナポリの王位に着いた際、彼は宮廷となる城を海から遠くない場所に建てるよう命令しました。作業は1279年に始まり3年後に完成しました。

We arrived at "Castel Nuovo". When Charles I of Naples (Charles of Anjou) acceded to the throne in 1266, he ordered a new castle, not far from the sea, built to house the court. Works began in 1279 and were completed three years later.

ロベルト王(1309年から在位)の時代に城は拡大、装飾が施され芸術の中心地となりました。1347年に城はハンガリー王ラヨシュ1世の軍に奪われ、ジョヴァンナ1世の手に戻った後には大規模な修復が必要でした。

We bought admission tickets and got in there.
Under king Robert (reigned from 1309), the castle was enlarged and embellished, becoming a centre of patronage of art. In 1347 Castel Nuovo was sacked by the army of Louis I of Hungary, and had to be heavily restored after the return of queen Joanna I.

中は美術館になっていました。
1442年にアルフォンソ1世が初代となったアラゴン王家の基で砦は新砲兵隊にも抵抗できるように修復されました。有名な凱旋門はアルフォンソがナポリへ入場したことを祝って入口に加えられました。

The castle houses a museum.
Under the Aragonese dynasty, begun by Alfonso V in 1442, the fortress was updated to resist the new artillery. A famous triumphal arch was added to the main gate to celebrate Alfonso's entrance in Naples.

お城の基礎部分が見えるところは床が透明でした。
1494年のシャルル8世のフランス軍によるナポリ失陥の後、王国はスペインに引き継がれ、城は住居の役割を無くし重要な軍事拠点となりました。スペイン王がナポリを訪問する際の一時的な住居でもありました。

The floor becomes transparent to see a basic part of the castle.
After the fierce sack of Naples by Charles VIII of France's soldiers in 1494, the Kingdom was annexed by Spain, and the castle was reduced from residence to an important military fortress. It was the temporary residence of the Spanish kings during their visits in the city.

5つの円筒状の塔があり、それぞれに入り口があって、どこをどう行けばいいのかわからず…。全部見たと信じて見学は終了!結局城は1815年までナポリ、アラゴン、スペイン各王国の拠点でした。最後の修復は1823年に行われました。

There are 5 cylindrical tower and each tower has an entrance. We were at a loss where to visit. We believed we entered all part of the castle and finished our visit. After all the castle was a royal seat for kings of Naples, Aragon and Spain until 1815. The last restoration of Castel Nuovo occurred in 1823.

「卵城」に到着。
城の名前は中世に偉大な魔術師で占い師として有名だったローマ時代の詩人ウェルギリウスについての伝説から来ています。伝説ではウェルギリウスは城の守りのために基礎部分に魔法の卵を入れました。卵が割れると城は破壊されナポリに大災害がいくつも起きるとされています。

We arrived at "Castel dell'Ovo".
The castle's name comes from a legend about the Roman poet Virgil, who had a reputation in the Middle Ages as a great sorcerer and predictor of the future. In the legend, Virgil put a magical egg into the foundations to support the fortifications. Had this egg been broken, the castle would have been destroyed and a series of disastrous events for Naples would have followed.

海に張り出して建てられたお城なので守りは堅く。
12世紀にノルマン人がこの場所に最初の城を建てました。アンジュー公シャルル1世が新城であるヌオーヴォ城を建て王座を移したため、城の重要性は減少しました。卵城は王室と財務省の拠点となり牢獄としても使われました。

It's an impregnable castle because it was built on the place that projected into the sea.
The first castle on the site was built by the Normans in the 12th century. The importance of the Castel dell'Ovo began to decline when king Charles I of Anjou built a new castle, Castel Nuovo, and moved his court there. Castel dell'Ovo became the seat of the Royal Chamber and of the State Treasury. It also served as a prison.

お城のいちばん高いところに上るとナポリ湾が見渡せます。
現在の外観はアラゴン王国時代(15世紀)まで遡ります。イタリア戦争(1494年-1559年)の際にフランス軍とスペイン軍の砲撃にさらされています。

When we go up the highest point of the castle, we can look out over the Naples waterfront.
The current appearance dates from the Aragonese domination (15th century). It was struck by French and Spanish artillery during the Italian Wars (1494-1559).

下をのぞき込むと海の底まで見えてるー。
長い間、衰退していた城は1975年に始まった大規模修復によって現在の姿となりました。

When we looked down, we could see the bottom of the sea.
After a long period of decay the site got its current appearance during an extensive renovation project started in 1975.

「ガリバルディ」駅の先は治安が特に悪いと言われるあたり。まだ、明るいのでなんとかお夕飯に出かけることに。
ジュゼッペ・ガリバルディ(1807年7月22日生-1882年6月2日没)はイタリアの将軍、政治家、愛国者。彼は現代の最も優れた将軍の一人、またイタリアの祖国の父の一人と考えられています。彼は徐々にイタリア統一につながる数々の戦闘を指揮し戦いました。

It is said that the other side of "Naples Garibaldi Piazza station" is dangerous. We went for a dinner by daylight somehow.
Giuseppe Garibaldi(22 July 1807 - 2 June 1882) was an Italian general, politician and nationalist. He is considered one of the greatest generals of modern times and one of Italy's "fathers of the fatherland". He personally commanded and fought in many military campaigns that led eventually to the Italian unification.

We can eat "Riccio di Mare" depending on the stocking condition. We came back to the hotel before dark.

「アマルフィ海岸」へ出かけました。アマルフィ海岸は1997年に世界遺産に登録されました。

We visited "The Amalfi Coast". In 1997, the Amalfi Coast was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

このあたりはレモン栽培が有名です。レモンを搾ってもらいました。酸っぱいからオレンジも混ぜるといいよっておじさんが言ったのでオレンジミックスで。ザクロを搾ったジュースもありました。

This neighborhood is famous for lemon cultivation. I have middle aged guy squeeze a lemon. He recommended it was better to mix orange with it because it was sour, so I ordered mixed juice of an oraneg and a lemon. We could choose squeezed juice of a pomegranate.

左がオレンジとレモン、右がザクロ。混じり物なし、絞りたてのフレッシュジュース。レモンジュースはやっぱり酸っぱかったー。

The left is squeezed juice of an orange and a lemon, the right is a pomegranate. They were unmixed fresh juices. As I expected, the lemon juice was sour.

斜面の町の道路はとても狭くてあちらこちらで渋滞が…

The clouds were breaking and the sun began to break through them. The roads of the town on the slope were very narrow and they were congested here and there.

斜面に建てられているので見た目は小さな建物でも、じつは海岸にまで続く大きな建物だったります。

The building looks very samll because they are built on the slope. However soem of them are big ones which spread out to the shore actually.

下をのぞくとホテルの一角が、海に突き出たように建てられています。道からはほとんど見ることができない構造です。

When we look down, we can see that a part of the hotel is built like projecting out to the sea. We can hardly see such a structure from the road.

写真では青く見えるけど、エメラルドグリーンに光っています。世界中にある明るい青やエメラルドグリーンに満ちた数個の洞窟のひとつです。それぞれの洞窟の色の質や性格はそれぞれの洞窟のユニークな光の条件によって決まります。

It looks blue in the picture, though it's shining in emerald green. It is one of several caves worldwide, that is flooded with a brilliant blue or emerald light. The quality and nature of the color in each cave is determined by the unique lighting conditions in that particular cave.

鍾乳洞を見たりして…最後に…
エメラルドの洞窟は自然の出口が水面上にはありません。外界への唯一の穴は海面下にあります。穴を通って洞窟内に入った太陽光線の反射が日中の間、水を特徴的なエメラルドグリーンに変えます。

We saw a limestone cave and so on.
The Grotta dello Smeraldo has no natural outlet above the waterline. The only opening to the outside world is just below the water level. Refracted sunlight entering the cavern through the opening gives the water its characteristic emerald gleen during daylight hours.

船頭さんが水面を波立たせてくれました。エメラルド色の水がキラキラ踊り出してとてもきれいでした−。水面上に自然の入口が無いということでこの洞窟の存在は長い間、知られないままでした。1932年にある漁師によって発見されました。

Finally a boatman ruffled the surface of the water. Glittering emerald green water started dancing and it was very beautiful. The absence of a natural opening above the waterline meant that the grotto’s existence remained unknown for many years. It was discovered by a fisherman in 1932.

After we visited "Grotta dello Smeraldo", we decided to go to "Amalfi" by boat to avoid a trafic jam.

岸壁の上には見張り台。見張り台はあちらこちらで見られます。

We were heading for Amalfi.
There is a watchtower on the quay. We can see many watchtowers here and there.

象2頭が鼻と鼻をくっつけたような岩。この岩の間を小さなボートでカップルがくぐるといいことがあるんだそうです。

The rock looks like attaching noses of 2 elephants. I hear a couple who goes under the nose by small boat will be happy.

でっかい洞窟がふたつ。浸食がすすむと上の建物、危ないよね。

There are 2 huge caves. If an erosion goes as it is, buidings on the cave will be dangerous.

「アマルフィ」が見えてきました。
まもなく到着。海からの「アマルフィ海岸」も素敵でした。アマルフィの街は839年から1200年において地中海における重要な貿易勢力であったアマルフィ公国の首都でした。1920年代から30年代にかけてアマルフィは英国上流階級と貴族に人気の休日を過ごす場所でした。

"Amalfi" is coming into our sight.
We will arrive soon. The view of "Amalfi Coast" from the sea is wonderful. The town of Amalfi was the capital of the maritime republic known as the Duchy of Amalfi, an important trading power in the Mediterranean between 839 and around 1200. In the 1920s and 1930s, Amalfi was a popular holiday destination for the British upper class and aristocracy.

到着。すごい数のバスが駐まっています。アマルフィでは駐車場不足を解消するため、車は2時間しかとめられないんだって。ボートで来てよかったー

メインはリゾット。
アマルフィ名産のレモンのリゾットです。ぷりぷりのエビもたっぷり。これ、少なそうに見えるんだけど、お腹いっぱいになります。とてもおいしかった。

The main dish was a risotto.
A risotto of the lemon made specially in Amalfi with full of fresh shrimps. Though it looked a small portion, it made us full. It was great.

これでノーマルサイズ。お皿からはみ出る大きさ。
お会計はとてもシンプル。ピザは1枚4ユーロ、飲み物はビールだろうが水だろうがともかく2ユーロ。二人で12ユーロ+チップ。やっす!

"Marinara"
It's a normal size. It is size to protrude from a dish.
The prices are very simple. A pizza is 4 euros and regardless to a kind of the drink, it is 2 euros a bottle. 12 euros and chip for 2 people. It was quite budget.

あとで知ったんだけど、「ミケーレ」は福岡と恵比寿にもあるらしい。日本では1枚(ノーマルサイズ)1500円。
今までマルゲリータってつまんないピザだなぁって思っていました。ここでその意識は変わりました!マルゲリータこそピザ!本当においしかった。

Though I knew it later, there are "Michele" pizzarias in Ebisu and Fukuoka in Japan. A normal sized pizza is 1,500 yens in Japan.
I didn't think a margherita is a charming pizza. But this pizzaria made my recognition change. A margherita is the pizza ! It was very delicious.

8世紀から9世紀にかけて建てられたこの教会はサラセン侵略に対する574年のナポリ公国の勝利を祝うために聖パウロに捧げられました。1580年代初めに教会の再建が始まり、装飾は18世紀まで続けれました。6本の円柱と三角形のティンパヌムを含む教会の前面は1688年の地震で破壊されました。

"San Paolo Maggiore"
The church erected here in the 8th-9th century was dedicated to St. Paul to celebrate a victory in 574 of the Duchy of Naples against pillaging Saracens. In the early 1580s, general reconstruction of the church began and the decoration continued in the 18th century. The front section of the church, including six columns and triangular tympanum, was visible until 1688, when it was destroyed by an earthquake.

建設は13世紀後半に始まりました。地震の被害に伴う大規模修復は16世紀に行われ1547年には鐘楼が加えられました。教会は1742年に全面的に再建されました。修復が1882年に始まり20世紀後半に完成しました。

The construction of the church began in the late of the 13th century. A large restoration due to the damage of earthquakes was carried out in the 16th century and in 1547 the bell tower was added. The church was was totally rebuilt in 1742. The restoration started in 1882 and finished in the second half of the 20th century.

町を歩いていて人が出入りをしているのでのぞいてみたら「サンタ・マリア・エジツィアカ・ア・ファルチェッラ教会」でした。教会は1342年に設立され1500年と1684年に再建されました。後者の再建により教会は現在のバロック様式の外観となりました。

When we walked in the town, we found the place where people went in and out and we entered there. It's "Santa Maria Egiziaca a Forcella". The church was founded in 1342 and underwent reconstructions in 1500 and in 1684. The latter reconstruction gave the church its present Baroque appearance.

今日はカプリ島へ。ナポリの港から高速船で50分ぐらい。ローマ共和国時代からずっとリゾート地です。

We visited Capri today. It takes around 50 minutes from the port of Naples by high-speed boat. It has been a resort since the time of the Roman Republic.

港には小舟がたくさん。もしかしてーと思ったらやっぱり今日は高波のため「青の洞窟」は閉っていました。後から聞くとここ1週間はずっと入れなかったそう。前に来たときに見られたのはラッキーだったんだなー

A lot of boats anchored in the road. I had a bad premonition and as I afraid, "Blue Grotto" was closed due to a high wave. I knew later that it had been closed for 1 week. We had been lucky because we had been able to visit there before.

「フェニキア人の階段」
かつてマリーナ・グランデ港とアナカプリを結ぶ唯一の連絡路でした。つい数年前までフェニキア人が造った階段だと信じられてきました。(名前もそこから来ています)最近の歴史調査により実際は紀元前7世紀から6世紀にかけて古代ギリシャ人が建設したことが判明しました。

Once the only connection between the port of Marina Grande and Anacapri. Until only a few years ago, it was believed that the steps had been built by the Phoenicians (hence the name). 1363年に設立されたカルトジオ会の修道院で、カプリ島最古の建物の一つ。1553年に修復、要塞化され18世紀に崩壊した塔も建てられました。

There is a street lined with luxury brand stores in "Capri" of luxury resort. I bought a limited item of Louis Vuitton I had been looking for consecutively because it had been sold out in Japan when I visited here before.

無理矢理外にテーブル席を作った感じ。オープン前だったので並ばすに入れました−。

I felt that the pizzeria prepared tables by force at the outside. We could take a seat without waiting because it was just before opening.

お目当てはナポリにしかないという「揚げピザ」。当然のようにお皿からはみ出しています。揚げたてで出てきました。具はほうれん草と山羊のチーズ。おいしかったです。

The purpose was a "Pizza fritta" we was able to eat only in Naples. Of course the pizza protruded from a plate. A fresh one was served. Ingredients were spinach and goat cheese. It was amazing.

マルゲリータも。「ミケーレ」もおいしかったけど、ここも負けていないね。さすが行列のできる人気店。二人で15ユーロでお腹いっぱい。

We had a margherita as well. The one of "Antica Pizzeria da Michele" was great, but this pizzaeria didn't lose. As expected, it's a popular pizzeria which has people lined up. The cost of meal was 15 euros for two and we became full.

ナポリに来てから他のヨーロッパの街と同じように感じなくて。まるでアジアの都市にいるような気になります。外に干された洗濯物やこうした雑多な通りがそう思わせるんだね。

Since I came to Naples, I feel as if I'm staying at Asian town, not European one. I think laundry dried outside and such a miscellaneous street make me feel so.

地下鉄の駅を上がってすぐ。博物館に到着ー。建物は1585年に騎兵兵舎として建てられました。1616年から1777年まではナポリ大学の建物でした。博物館になった後の19世紀には主要構造に多くの変更を受けています。

Just when we go up from the metro station, we can arrive there. The building was built as a cavalry barracks in 1585. From 1616 to 1777 it was the seat of the University of Naples. During the 19th century, after it became museum, it suffered many changes to the main structure.

We arrived 5 minutes before the opening. Only one couple stood before us. It was good. (There was a long queue before noon.)

It is a massive Roman elaborated copy of a Hellenistic sculpture. This colossal marble sculptural group represents the myth of Dirce first wife of Lykos, King of Thebes. She was tied to a wild bull by the sons of Antiope, Amphion and Zethus, who wanted to punish her for the ill-treatment inflicted on their mother

「カメオガラスの壺」
青地ガラスの上に白地ガラスを重ねて作られた物。ローマ帝国時代の作品で具体的には紀元1世紀(1年-79年)頃と思われます。1834年にポンペイで発見されました。花瓶は表面に葡萄の収穫を描いたワイン・アンフォラの形をしています。素晴らしいー

"The cameo glass vase"
This vase was made by putting white glass on blue glass. It dates back to the Roman Imperial period and specifically to the first century AD (1-79 AD). It was found in 1834 in Pompeii. The vase has the shape of a wine amphora, on the body of which a scene of grape harvest is portrayed. Wonderful.

およそ百万の破片で作られたこのモザイクは紀元前333年に起こりペルシャ帝国を終焉させたアレクサンダー大王とダレイオス3世の戦いを描いています。

It's the most famous mosaic in the museum.

The mosaic, made with the use of about one million tesserae, depicts the battle of Issus fought between Alexander the Great and Darius III in 333 BC; it marked the end of the Persian Empire.

「踊る牧神(ファウヌス)」
ポンペイでも最大級の住宅・ファウヌスの家にあり1830年から32年の間に発見されました。銅像は紀元前1世紀後半(49年から1年)まで遡るものと考えられています。頭の山羊の角と小さな尻尾は明らかにファウヌス、もしくはパン、もしくはサテュロスの姿を表しています。

"Dancing Faun"
The statuette was found, between 1830 and 1832, in the House of the Faun, the biggest house in Pompeii. The bronze statuette can be dated to around the second half of the first century BC (49-1 BC). The goat horns on the head and the small tail clearly identify the figure as a Faun, or Pan, or Satyr.

博物館にはひみつの小部屋と呼ばれるエリアがあって、そこには主にポンペイとヘラクラネウムから発掘されたちょっとエッチなモザイクや彫刻が並んでいます。そのひとつ。成人とモラルをわきまえた人しか入れません。

There is a small area called The Secret Cabinet or Secret Room in the museum and we can see a fairly extensive collection of erotic or sexual items, mostly deriving from excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum. It's one of them. Access was limited to only persons of mature age and known morals.

These sculptures depict Harmodius (right) and Aristogeiton (left), 2nd century Roman copy of Greek sculptures. They were two lovers from ancient Athens. They became known as the Tyrannicides after they killed the Peisistratid tyrant Hipparchus, and were the preeminent symbol of democracy to ancient Athenians.
