 何度もアントワープには行っているのにまだここには行ったことがありませんでした。5年目にして初の「アントワープ動物園」。1843年7月21日に設立した国内最古の動物園で世界でも最古のひとつとなります。
We have not been there, although we came to Antwerp many times. We came "Antwerp Zoo" for the first time in the fifth year. It is the oldest animal park in the country, and one of the oldest in the world, established on 21 July 1843. |

 「オカピ」
世界三大珍獣のひとつです。西欧社会には20世紀にやっと存在が確認された珍獣。「森の貴婦人」と呼ばれる美しいキリン科の動物。世界の動物園が飼育を望むあこがれの動物なのだそうです。アジアでは東京の上野動物園、横浜のズーラシアと日本の2動物園だけにいます。
"Okapi"
It's one of the three most famous endangered animals in the world. The okapi was unknown to the Western world until the 20th century. It's a beautiful giraffidae animal called "Lady of the forest". I hear it's a longing animal zoos of all over the world want to breed. In Asia, only two zoos in Japan exhibit okapis; Ueno Zoo in Tokyo and Zoorasia in Yokohama. |

 ジェンツー・ペンギン。
ペンギンにジェンツーが適用された経緯はわかりません。ジェンツーはアングロ−インド語系ではイスラム教徒からヒンズー教徒を区別するための用語です。鳥の頭にある白いパッチがターバンに似ていると考えられたという推測もあります。
Gentoo penguins.
The application of gentoo to the penguin is unclear. Gentoo was an Anglo-Indian term to distinguish Hindus from Muslims. Some speculate that the white patch on the bird's head was thought to resemble a turban. |

 2015年に修復が完成した築1世紀以上の水族館。寒い日だったので、室内のここは大人気。

 中華ではないけれど、アジア料理の店も多く、開いていた「インド料理店」へ。
There are a lot of Asian restaurants except for Chinese ones at the town. We visited "Indian restaurant" which opened. |

We ordered a shrimp curry, a ram curry, a bowl of rice and a piece of nan bread. We did chai at last and became full. |
