 印象派の巨匠「モネ」が人生の大半を過ごした村「ジヴェルニー」に行ってきました。
確かに予約したホテルの住所はここなんだけど、どう見ても普通の家。電話してみると「おー、今から行くよ」という返事…
We visited "Giverny", the village where "Claude Monet", a great master of the Impressionists, spent most of his life.
Definitely the address of the hotel we booked was here, but it looked a normal house. When I called at a hotel, someone answered that "Oh! I'm coming.". |

 ホテルを予約したつもりがこのお宅を借りることになっていたらしい。オーナーのスティーブさんが２軒隣に住んでいて鍵を持ってきてくれました。
Though we thought we booked a normal hotel, actually the accommodations we booked was this house. The owner who lived 2 doors away brought a key. |

 朝、「モネの家」へ向かいます。あらかじめネットでチケットを買っているので正面入り口ではなく、庭の入り口から開館３０分前に入れてもらえます。
We headed for "Monet's House" in the morning. We bought tickets in advance on the internet, so we could enter there from the specific entrance of the garden, not the front entrance, 30 minutes before the open.

 睡蓮の咲く池。1893年にモネは道路の反対側の空き地を購入し、エプテ川の支流であるルー川の水を引き込んでそこを水の庭園に変えました。その庭は彼の記念碑的な作品である「睡蓮」シリーズによって彼の存命中から有名となりました。

 有名な睡蓮はその目的のためだけに雇われた庭師によって最新の注意を払って世話されています。まだ人が少ないのはあらかじめチケットを買っておいたから。画家で庭師でもあったモネの庭園はどこを見ても美しい。
The now famous water lilies were meticulously tended by a gardener employed for that sole purpose. There were few people there because general visitors couldn't enter yet on this time. Monet was a painter and a gardener, so his garden is very beautiful everywhrer. |

 モネが８人の子どもたちと暮したアトリエと住まい。このもうひとつの庭はClos-Normandと呼ばれ、モネがジベルニーに住み始めた時、彼自身の芸術的見地によって作成されました。彼は何年もかけて直線状に何千もの花を植えることで庭を生きているオープン・エアの絵画に仕立てました。
It's the house and the studio where Monet lived in with 8 children. This another garden is called the Clos-Normand and it was modelled after Monet's own artistic vision when he settled in Giverny. He spent years transforming the garden into a living en plein air painting, planting thousands of flowers in straight-lined patterns. |

 2013年3月に修復されたモネの寝室。モネはこの非常に簡素なベッドで眠り1926年12月5日にそこで亡くなりました。ジヴェルニー・グループの画家の作品が壁にかかっています。モネは部屋にセザンヌ、ルノアール、ピサロ、シスレーといった友人の印象派の作品を飾っていました。
Monet's bedroom renovated in March 2013. Monet slept in this very simple bed, and died there the 5th December 1926. Paintings by artists of the colony of Giverny hang on the walls. Monet exhibited in his room impressionist works by his friends: Cezanne, Renoir, Pissarro, Sisley and so on. |

Reproducted dining room with yellow walls. Monet, who didn't care for fashion, which was very dark and heavy in Victorian times, had it painted in two tones of yellow. The walls are packed with Japanese engravings that Monet chose with an expert eye. For fifty years, he collected the prints by the best Japanese artists, especially Hokusai, Hiroshige and Utamaro. |

 モネは青い台所を欲しがり、その結果お客は台所へのドアが開いた時、黄色い食堂との明るい色のハーモニーを見ることができました。台所の壁はルーアンのタイルが貼られています。
Monet wanted a blue kitchen so that the guests would see the right color in harmony with the yellow dining room when the door to the kitchen was open. The walls of the kitchen are covered with tiles of Rouen.

 中央通路はバラの花が登って育つための鉄のアーチで覆われています。他のバラの木は家に沿って手すりを覆います。夏の終わりにはキンレンカが中央通路の土壌を覆います。モネは組織・整備された庭が嫌いでした。彼はその色によって花を植え、より自由に育つよう後は放っておきました。チケット売り場がオープンして人が増えてきました。奥に見える「モネの家」の前にも人だかりができはじめました。
The central alley is covered over by iron arches on which climbing roses grow. Other rose trees cover the balustrade along the house. At the end of the summer nasturtiums invade the soil in the central alley. Monet did not like organized nor constrained gardens. He married flowers according to their colours and left them to grow rather freely. Visitors were increasing because the ticket booth opened. A crowd began to form in front of "Monet's house" which was seen in the depth. |
