 イースター休暇、スペインへ行く予定が空港閉鎖のため行けなくなりました。車で行けるオランダの街を周ることにしました。
まずは「ユトレヒト」へ。高さ112.5メートルの「ドムタワー」が見えてきました。
We had had a plan to go to Spain for Easter vacation, however we couldn't go because of the airport close. Therefore we took a journey to the town of the Netherland by car. Firstly we went to "Utrecht". Dom Tower, at 112.5 metres in height, was begun to see. |

オランダで最も古い大学のひとつで、ヨーロッパ最大の大学のひとつです。1636年3月26日に創立されました。「ヤン・ヴァン・ナッソウ（1230年頃-1309年7月13日埋葬）」の像があります。彼は1267年から1290年までユトレヒトの選民でした。

 「ドム教会」は一部修復中でした。2004年に教会建設750年を記念して崩壊した部分が一時的に足場材で再建されました。足場材は既に撤去されています。教会を出て街歩きへ。
"Dom Church" was under restoration partially. In 2004, 750 years after construction began, the collapsed parts were temporarily rebuilt in scaffolding material. The scaffolding has since been taken down. We left the church and begun to take a walk in the town. |

 「ドムタワー」をくぐり抜けます。ドムタワーはドム教会の一部で1321年から1382年にかけて建てられました。大聖堂は予算不足で完成することはありませんでした。1674年に未完成のナーヴは崩壊したため、ドムタワーは独立した塔になりました。
We go through "Dom Tower". The tower was part of Dom Church, and was built between 1321 and 1382. The cathedral was never fully completed due to lack of money. Since the unfinished nave collapsed in 1674 the Dom tower became a free standing tower. |

 ライデンは1823年から1829年に日本を追放されるまで日本の出島で働いていたドイツ人医師シーボルトが晩年日本研究に励んだ町でもあり、日本とも縁が深い町です。そのためか、こんなB&Bもありました。
Leiden is the city where Philipp Franz von Siebold, a German physician who was employed on Deshima (Japan) from 1823 until his expulsion by Japan in 1829, worked hard at Japanology in later years. Therefore Japan and the town have had a close ties. I think that's why there is such a B&B in the town. |

 市門「モースポールト」。中世、ライデンには複数の市門がありましたが、モースポールトとZijlpoortだけが何世紀に渡って残っています。昔は絞首刑された罪人の遺体がさらされていたため、「絞首台の門」と呼ばれていました。名前の「Mors」は「沼地」から来ており、昔は街の西部がじめじめした草原でした。1611年にこの門が完成した際には非常に似つかわしい名前だったでしょう。
"The Morspoort". Leiden had several city gates in the Middle Ages, but only the Morspoort and Zijlpoort survived the centuries. The Morspoort is located on the western edge of the city. In the past this was called "Hanging gate" since the bodies of hanged criminals were on display here. Its name "Mors" comes from the word ‘morass’. The western part of Leiden used to be a marshy meadow area. When the Morspoort was completed in 1611 this seems the name most naturally suited. |

企画展のお部屋。今回の企画はどうして常設展示にしないのかというテーマでした。「大きすぎる」とか、「痛みすぎている」とか。ここは「肖像画が多すぎ常設て展示できない」というテーマのお部屋。一気に並べたのは初めてだそうです。

だまし絵で有名な「M.C.エッシャー」の作品が展示されています。建物は18世紀に建てられた元王室の冬宮だった「The Lange Voorhout Palace」です。

 「ノールダインデ宮殿」へ。
元々は1533年にオランダ国元首の広大な住居に変更された農家でした。1817年にオランダ王室の公式な宮殿となりました。今は国王の執務室やオフィスとして使われています。国旗が降りていたので国王は今、ここにはいないみたい。

The palace originated as a medieval farmhouse, which was converted into a spacious residence by the steward of the States of Holland in 1533. In 1817, it became the official palace of the Dutch royal family. Now it is used as the Dutch Monarch’s workplace and office. I don't think the king is here because the national flag goes down. |

オランダ王室が議会に黄金の馬車で来られて王座から議会の開会宣言をされる場所として使われています。この場所には13世紀に建てられ、現在の目的のため1894年から1904年にかけて修復されました。

 「ホフ池」にある「ブレディウス美術館」。エッチングと絵画で有名ですが最も観光客にとって興味深いのは18世紀の大邸宅の内装と同時代の家具です。今回はパス。
