 ブリュッセル中央駅からICに乗って４０分でゲントの中央駅セント・ピータース駅に到着。そこから旧市街地までは２キロ。トラムで１０分です。1913年のゲント万博の際、このセント・ピーターズ駅は建てられました。
I arrive at the St. Peters station that is the central station of Ghent in 40 minutes from the central station of Brussels by IC train. And the old town is 2km from the station. It takes 10 minutes by tram train. At the occasion of the 1913 world exhibition in Ghent, this Sint-Pieters railway station was built. |

The present castle was built in 1180 by count Philip of Alsace and was modeled after the crusaders castles that Philip of Alsace encountered while he participated in the second crusade. There is the tourist information next to this castle and I can get the walking map here. |

 「聖ニコラス教会」
初期ロマネスク様式教会の代替として13世紀初期に始まったスヘルデゴシック様式の教会の建築は世紀の残りを通じて行われました。（近くの川の名前から名づけられました）この様式の典型的なスタイルはトゥルネー地区の青灰色の石の使用、十字架の建物の上の一本の大きな塔、建物の角の小塔です。

Begun in the early 13th century as a replacement for an earlier Romanesque church, construction continued through the rest of the century in the local Scheldt Gothic style (named after the nearby river). Typical of this style is the use of blue-gray stone from the Tournai area, the single large tower above the crossing, and the slender turrets at the building's corners. |

 世界遺産の鐘楼と鐘楼ホール
建物は数世紀の間に徐々に荒廃していきました。1840年頃歴史的建造物としての興味が高まり、20世紀になるころには大規模修繕計画が現れました。教会の周りにあった家は取り壊され、多くの修復作業がそれ以来行われました。
The Belfry and The hall of belfry are the world heritage site.
The building gradually deteriorated through the centuries. Interest in the church as a historical monument arose around 1840, and at the turn of the 20th century major restoration plans emerged. The houses alongside the church were demolished and much renovation work has been carried out since then. |

ウォーキングコースももうすぐゴール。これはフランダースの政治的リーダーであるヤコブ・ヴァン・アルテベルデ（1290年？生-1345年7月13もしくは24日没）の像です。彼は「賢人」や「ゲントの醸造者」としても知られています。
