 ワルシャワに到着。中央駅目の前の「文化科学宮殿」。ポーランドで一番高い建物で231mあります。ソビエト人民からポーランド国家への贈り物として1952年から4年をかけて建てられました。街中で最も目立つ建物として建設当初から物議を呼びました。多くのポーランド人が旧市街の美的バランスを壊し、他の建物と調和していないとこの建物を嫌っています。「ソビエトの建てたワルシャワの墓石」と呼ばれているそうです。
We arrived at Warsaw. "Palace of Culture and Science" in front of the central station. It is the tallest building in Poland and is 231 metres tall. The building was conceived as a "gift from the Soviet people to the Polish nation" and construction started in 1952 and lasted until 1955. As the city's most visible landmark, the building was controversial from its inception. Many Poles initially hated the building because the building destroyed the aesthetic balance of the old city and imposed dissonance with other buildings. It is called as "the tombstone of Warsaw built by Soviet". |

 ちょうどお昼になったのでホテルのバイキング・レストランでランチ。
お寿司もありました。味はまあまあ合格点。お味噌汁もあったけど、カップとソーサーは間違ってるよね。
We had a buffet-style lunch of the hotel because it was just noon. Sushi was served. That had an OK taste. We could also have a miso-soup. However a cup and a saucer were mistaken. |

It stands before the Staszic Palace, the seat of the Polish Academy of Sciences. It was completed in 1830. After the Warsaw Uprising, in which the monument was damaged, the Germans decided to melt it down. They removed it to Nysa, but had to retreat before they could melt it down. The Poles brought the monument back to Warsaw on July 1945, renovated it, and unveiled it again on July 1949 |

ここはチャプスキ宮殿でした。ポーランド首都における最も特徴的なロココ建築のひとつと考えれています。1686年頃建設されました。宮殿前の中庭にはアンドレア・デル・ヴェロッキオが作成したバルトロメーオ・コッレオーニの騎馬像のコピーがあります。宮殿左の別館はショパン博物館の別館であり、屋根裏には1985年に開館した美術アカデミーがあります。

The Chopin Family Parlor is in the south annex to the Palace and the Academy of Fine Arts museum that opened in 1985 is located in the Palace's attic. |

 部屋、バスルームも全面窓で文化科学宮殿が見えます。旧市街もみわたせます。
The bedroom and bathroom have a big window. We could see "Palace of Culture and Science" from them. We could also look out over the old town. |

公園内には「ショパン像」があります。1926年に完成しました。第2次大戦中の1940年5月31日、像は爆破されました。像のオリジナルの型が戦争を生き残ったため、レプリカを鋳造することが可能となり1958年に元の場所に戻されました。同サイズのレプリカが日本の浜松にあります。

The original mould for the statue, which had survived the war, made it possible to cast a replica, which was placed at the original site in 1958. 「ワジェンキ宮殿」に到着。この大理石の建物は1683年に建設が開始され、1689年に完成しました。1766年スタニスワフ2世アウグスト王がこの建物を購入し、彼の小さな個人的な夏の離宮に変更することが決定されました。

「水上宮殿」とも呼ばれています。第2次大戦中、ドイツ軍は爆破のために壁に穴を開けましたが、爆破まで手がまわりませんでした。結局、宮殿は兵舎として使われました。

ランチのあと空港へ。またまた1時間遅れ。ヨーロッパに来てから乗り物が定刻に動くのを見たことないなぁ…動くだけでありがたいと思えるようになりました。お疲れ様でした。

We went to the airport after a lunch. The flight was delayed yet again. We haven't seen that transportations work punctually, after we came to Europe. We became able to think that we were thankful, even if the flight wasn't canceled. We enjoyed the trip very much. |
