 お天気がよかったのでドイツの小さな村「モンシャウ」に行ってきました。駐車場からルーア川に沿って少し歩くと旧市街です。
We visited a small village in Germany, "Monschau" because the weather was fine. We reached the old town when we walked little from the parking lot along the Rur river. |

 とりあえず、ランチ。モンシャウはマスタードで有名なところです。迷わずポークのマスタードソース。
Firstly we had a lunch at "Schloss Kaffee Royal". Monschau is famous for mustard. Therefore we ordered a grilled pork with mustard sauce without hesitating. |

 このあたりが町の中心かな。1810年に完成したプロテスタントの市教会とひときわ目を引く1768年完成の赤い家。
I guess it's the center of the village. The Protestant Stadtkirche, completed in 1810 and The Red House to attract notice, completed in 1768. |

 「赤い家」
18世紀に織物業で成功した商人のタウンハウスだった建物でした。今は博物館として使われています。
"The Red House"
It was the town house of merchants successful by textile business in the 18th century. It is used as a museum today. |

 「マルクト広場」にはこんな水くみ場がありました。織物や染色をする職人の様子がわかります。モンシャウは昔、織物業が盛んだったからだそうです。
There is such a fountain in "Market Square". We can see sculptures of the craftsmans who weave cloth and dye it. I heard textile business in Monschau was prosperous in old days. |

 「ヘラー遺跡」から見るモンシャウの町並み。町の向こうにはモンシャウ城が見えます。1543年の図ではヘラーは屋根と塔のある姿で描かれています。その石は1570年に城の修理に使われました。
We can see the village of Monschau from "the Haller Ruin". We can see Monschau Castle over the village. In a drawing from 1543, Haller is depicted as a roofed, imposing tower. Its stones were used for the repair of the castle in 1570. |

 お城の入り口に到着。この山城は1217年に最初の記録があります。14世紀半ばには砦として拡張されました。
We arrived at the entrance of Monschau Castle. The hill castle is first recorded in 1217. It was expanded in the middle of the 14th century into a fortress. |

 お城の敷地は公園になっていました。お城は現在、ユースホステルとしてまた夏の間はコンサートやオペラの会場として使われています。
The site of castle becomes a park. The castle is used today as a youth hostel and in summer as a venue for concerts and operas. |

 お城から要塞方面。19世紀初めにフランス当局は城を国家財産と宣言し個人に売却しましたが、購入者は固定資産税を避けるために1836年と37年に屋根を取り払いました。結果として城はライン地方の行政機関がこの城を保護、修復する20世紀初期まで廃墟となっていました。
The direction of "the Haller Ruin" from "Monschau Castle". In the early 19th century the French administration declared the castle to be state property and sold it to a private buyer who had the roofs removed in 1836 and 1837 in order to avoid building tax. As a result, the castle fell into ruins until, in the early 20th century, the government of the Rhine province secured and repaired it. |

 カフェでモンシャウのお菓子を食べました。薄焼きクッキーにホイップクリームと温かいチェリーのソースが添えられています。
We had a sweet of Monschau at a cafe. Whipped cream and hot cherry sauce were served with a thin fried cookie. |

 再びルーア川にそって歩いて駐車場へ。小さな町だけど、上って下りて、よく歩いた一日でした。
We walked along the Rur river to go back to the parking lot again. We walked a lot because there were a lot of slopes in the small village. |

 モンシャウ名物のマスタードを買いました。
シンプルなマスタード、マスタードにカレーと蜂蜜、マスタードに蜂蜜とポピー・シードの3種類です。
I bought 3 kinds of mustards, Monschau's well-known products.
A simple mustard, a mustard with curry, honey and a mustard with honey, poppy seeds.
