 7月いっぱいで本帰国になる方のリクエストでゲントへ遊びに行きました。国鉄で「ゲント・セント・ピータース」駅に到着。

 市庁舎は300年かけて建設されたのでルネッサンス様式とゴシック様式が合わさっています。

 かつて「肉市場」だったところが今はカフェになっています。そこでランチをしようと行ってみましたが、貸し切りだったようではいれませんでした…。中は肉市場らしい内装でした。
The cafe used be "The butchers' hall" in old days. Tough we wanted to have a lunch here, we were refused admission for reservations. It's the interior suggestive of the meat market in old days. |

 「キュベルドン」というお菓子です。キュベルドンは三角錐の形をしたベルギーのキャンディーです。ラズベリー風味で紫色をしていますが、最近では違った色や形のものが手に入ります。
It's the sweet called "Cuberdon". A cuberdon is a cone-shaped Belgian candy. It is raspberry-flavored and purple, though more recently differently colored and flavoured variants have been available as well. |

 ゲント発祥なのに「ブリュッセル」とつけたのはなんとなくブルジョワぽいからなんだそうです。ウインドーもワッフルがいっぱい。
It is said the name of "Brussels" used to remind of a bourgeois somehow in old days. That's why the waffle was named Brussels style even though it was born in Ghent. A lot of waffles were displayed in a show window. |
