日本には2005年10月に東京・丸の内にリストランテCOVA TOKYOがオープン。続いてCOVA MIDLAND SQUARE（名古屋）、COVA SHINJYUKU TAKASHIMAYAがイタリアンカフェ業態としてそれぞれオープンしています。

中心にはプラダの本店があります。以前はマクドナルドも入っていたけれどどうも追い出されたらしい。かなりもめて最後はハンバーガーを無料で配ってガレリアの中を大行列させたのだとか。ここをモデルに東京ディズニーランドの屋根付きモールができたそうです。

いよいよ「最後の晩餐」を見に行きます。ネット予約もかなりの競争だと聞いて今回はツアーに参加。ぜひ見たかったが、壁画なのでここに来なければ見られません。第2次大戦中の43年8月15日、米英軍の空襲が教会と修道院を襲いました。食堂の大部分は破壊されましたが絵を守るために土嚢が積まれていた「最後の晩餐」を含むいくつかの壁は無事でした。

Though we wanted to see it, we had to come here to see because it was a wall paint. Much of the refectory was destroyed, but some walls survived, including the one that holds the The Last Supper, which had been sand-bagged in order to protect it. |

"The Last Supper" which is painted at a dining room of the abbey on the left side of "the Santa Maria delle Grazie church" can be seen once only in 15 minutes for 25 people. It's considerably severe. This is a ticket booth. Leonardo began work on The Last Supper in 1495 and completed it in 1498. He did not work on the painting continuously. The beginning date is not certain, as the archives of the convent for the period have been destroyed and a document dated 1497 indicates that the painting was nearly completed at that date. |

 「サン・サティロ教会」
「ドゥオーモ」近くの小さな教会です。現在の教会は1472年から1482年にかけて建てられました。
"Chiesa di Santa Maria presso San Satiro"
It's a small church near "Milan Cathedral". The current church was instead built from 1472 to 1482. |

 「サン・サティロ教会」
中央祭壇。中央祭壇にあるろうそくより奥は奥行きたったの９０センチ。奥行きがあるようにみえるよね。クリックしてみてね。

 「サン・サティロ教会」
横から撮るとこんな感じ。奥行きがないのがわかります。実はこの教会はルネッサンス期を代表するイタリアの建築家ドナト・ブラマンテの代表作品。彼は「最後の晩餐」のあるサンタ・マリア・デッレ・グラーツィエ教会の建設に携わり、ローマのサン・ピエトロ大聖堂の建築主任としても知られ、さらにダヴィンチとも友人であったといわれるほど有名な人物です。彼が奥行きのない教会をなんとか広く見せようとこの工夫をしました。
さあ、そろそろ週末も終わりです。ベルギーに帰ります。お疲れ様でした。

Seeing from the side, it is such a feeling. You can find that there is no depth. Really this church is a representative work of Donato Bramante who was an Italian architect and represented the renaissance period. He was a famous person who took part in the construction of the Santa Maria delle Grazie church with "the Last Supper", was known as the chief of construction of St. Pietro sanctuary of Rome, and also was a friend of Leonardo da Vinci. He contrived to make this church without depth look wide.
Now, the weekend was close to end. We will go back to Belgium. We enjoyed very much. |
