 大学の街ルーヴェンで毎年開催されるイベント「ハピエ・タピエ」へ行ってきました。ルーヴェンは世界最大のビールの会社「AB InBev」の本拠地で、お馴染のビール「ステラ・アルトワ」の工場もあり、このイベントの最大のスポンサーでもあります。「食の広場」は、レストランが通りにテントを設置し、自慢の料理を小さいお皿でリーズナブル（３ユーロから５ユーロ）に提供します。
We went to the event called "Hapje Tapje" which is held every year in Leuven which is the town of university. Leuven is the base of "AB InBev" which is the biggest beer company in the world. The factory of well known "Stella-Artois" is here and the company is the biggest sponsor of this event. "The square of food" means that each restautants install the booth in the street and supply thier dish of pride by small dish with reasonable price (3-5 euro). |

 ルーヴェン近郊にあるOude Heverleeで作られているスパークリングワイン。なかなかレストランでは見られないのですが、ここでは４ユーロで飲めます。
It's a sparkling wine which is made at Oude Heverlee in the suburbs of Leuven. It's difficult to find it at a restaurant, but we can drink it for 4 euro here. |

 大学図書館。立派な建物です。ネオ-ルネッサンス様式の外観が示すこととは異なり、建物は比較的新しく1921年のものです。図書館は1914年8月のドイツ軍に占領の際、マルクト広場にあった元々の17世紀の図書館が焼け落ちた後、アメリカより送られたものです。火事は中世都市の世襲文化的財産の大部分を破壊したのみならず、数えきれず、またかけがえのない何世紀も続いた歴史的写本や本の損失を招きました。1940年5月、第2次大戦の初年、ドイツ占領軍はまたほぼ徹底的に新しい図書館を破壊しました。大戦後、元々の計画に沿って再建されました。
The university library. It's a splended building. Even though the neo-Renaissance exterior implies otherwise, the building is relatively recent, dating from 1921. The library was a gift from the American people to the city of Leuven, after the original 17th century library near the Grote Markt was burned down by the German occupying forces in August 1914. The fire destroyed not only a large part of the cultural patrimony of the medieval city, but it also caused the loss of countless and irreplaceable historical manuscripts and books, many dating back centuries. In May 1940, in the first year of World War II, the German occupiers again destroyed, almost completely, the (new) University Library. After the war the building was reconstructed almost completely along the original plans |

 広場にあるオブジェ。ベルギーの芸術家、ジャン・ファブレの作品。高さ23メートルの針に輝いている甲虫がささっています。作者によれば、ネオ-クラシックな図書館前の針の上の虫のシュールな景観の並置はルーヴェンの街と大学を完璧に表しているそうです。
It's the object in the square. It is a work of the Belgian artist Jan Fabre. Featuring a 23-metre-high needle impaling a giant jewelled beetle, According to the author, the juxtaposition of the surreal view of the bug on a needle in front of the neo-classical library building perfectly captures the spirit of the city and university of Leuven. |

 石のレースと言われる美しい「市庁舎」。ブラバン式後期ゴシック様式で1448年から1469年の間に建てられました。建物の隙間を覆う彫刻が建物中にあります。彫刻を覆うコーベは聖書の救済場面が彫られています。隙間とコーベルは建物と同じ時期のものですが、236体の彫刻は比較的新しく1850年以降のものです。
It's a beautiful town hall which is said a lace of stone. Built in a Brabantine Late Gothic style between 1448 and 1469. Statues in canopied niches are distributed all over the building. The corbels supporting the statues are carved with Biblical scenes in high relief. While the niches and corbels are original with the building, the 236 statues themselves are relatively recent, dating from after 1850. |

 世界遺産「ベギン会修道院」。「ベギン会院」の中では最大のものです。面積は約3haでおよそ100の建物に300のアパートが入っており、ベネルクスでは現存するベギン教会としては最大のもののひとつです。最も古い文書記録は1232年に遡ります。教会のラテン語碑文は1234年を設立年としています。共同体は多分もう2〜30年古いと思われます。16世紀の地域の歴史家は設立を1205年としています。
"Grand Beguinage of Leuven" of the world heritage. It the biggest one of the Beguinage. About 3 hectares (7.5 acres) in size, with some 300 apartments in almost 100 houses, it is one of the largest still existing beguinages in the Low Countries. The oldest written documents date back from 1232. A Latin inscription on the church mentions 1234 as founding date. The community is presumably a few decades older. Local historians from the 16th century mention 1205 as founding date. |

 世界遺産「ベギン会修道院」いいお天気だったのに雷が…
フランダースの他のベギン会修道院と同じくルーヴェンの修道院も13世紀に黄金時代を迎え、16世紀の宗教的不寛容の際には困難な時を過ごしました。この小さな街は1964年から1989年にかけてルーヴェンカソリック大学により修復されました。1998年には公式にユネスコ世界遺産として認められました。

Just like other beguinages in Flanders, the beguinage in Leuven had a first golden age in the 13th century, and difficult times during the religious conflicts in the 16th century. This small town was restored between 1964 and 1989 by the Catholic University of Leuven. In 1998, it was officially recognised by Unesco as a World Heritage Site. |

 ルーヴェンはビールの町と言うだけでなく、ヨーロッパ最古の大学の１つ、創設1425年のルーヴェン・カトリック大学があるベルギー最大の学生の町でもあります。市庁舎近くにあるこの像は左手に「教養」を象徴する本、右手には「楽しみ」を表すビールを持つ姿はビールと大学で知られるルーヴェンのシンボルです。フルネームはFons Sapientiaeといいラテン語で知識の泉を意味します。ブリュッセルの小便小僧と同様、時々特別な日にはそれにあった衣装を身に着けます。
お腹いっぱいになって帰宅。楽しい一日でした。
Leuven is not only the city of beers but also the biggest city of students. Because there is one of the oldest university named Catholic University of Leuven and established in 1425. The statue named "Fonske" near the town hall has a book which symbolizes culture in the left hand and a beer which symbolizes pleasure in the right hand. The figure is the symbol of Leuven which is famous for beer and university. Its full name is Fons Sapientiae, Latin for "fountain of wisdom". Just like Manneken Pis in Brussels, Fonske is, from time to time, dressed in costumes appropriate for specific occasions.
We came home in the fullness. It was a pleasant day. |
