 人口６万人ちょっとの小さな町ですが、世界遺産が２つ、ベルギーの七大秘宝の一つがあるんです。これはベルギーの政治家で自由党下院議員だったジュールズ・バラの銅像。
It's a small town which has a population of about 60,000. However it has two World Heritage site and one of the seven treasures in Belgium. It's a statue of Jules Bara (23 August 1835 - 26 June 1900) who was a Belgian statesman and liberal politician. |

 まずは世界遺産の「ノートルダム大聖堂」。大聖堂は1999年8月の大竜巻により被害を受けました。損害調査で建築上の問題が明らかになり、それ以来大聖堂は外装の修理と建築学の調査が行われています。残念ながら2030年まで全体を見ることはできません。
First of all, It's World Heritage Site "Notre-Dame de Tournai(Tournai Cathedral). The Cathedral was damaged by a severe tornado on the 24 August 1999. Assessment of the damage revealed underlying structural problems and the Cathedral has been undergoing extensive repairs and archaeological investigation ever since. Unfotunately we can't see perspective till 2030. |

基礎から修復しているみたいです。ここのナーヴは12世紀前期にほぼ建設され、外翼は12世紀中期に建設されました。

内陣はみることができませんでした。13世紀にGautier de Marvis司教はもっと雄大な面をもったゴシック様式に置き換えるために、オリジナルのロマネスク様式の聖歌隊席を取り壊しました。新しい聖歌隊席の建設は1242年に始まり1255年に終わりました。

I couldn't the chancel. Bishop Gautier de Marvis (1219-1252) had the original Romanesque choir demolished in the 13th century, in order to replace it with a Gothic choir of much grander dimensions. The construction of the new choir began in 1242, and ended in 1255. |

1205年作製の「聖母マリアの遺物箱」があります。残念ながら写真撮影禁止でした。

 「トル橋」
トルはフランス語で穴の意味です。左側の塔は1281年に建てられ、右側の塔は1304年のものです。塔は市の平坦な部分に建てられ、大砲の攻撃に耐えるよう丸型をしています。これはベルギーで最も有名な中世軍事建造物跡です。
"Pont des Trous" (The Bridge of Holes)
Trous means a hole in French. The tower on the left bank was built in 1281, while that of the right bank dates from 1304. The towers are flat side of the city and rounded to the campaign to increase withstand cannon balls. It is one of the most prestigious vestiges of medieval military architecture in Belgium. |

It is built over Scheldt. At the beginning of World War II, in 1940, the central arch is blown by British army. During the reconstruction of the bridge in 1947, it is particularly elevated 2.40 m to meet changing templates barges. EU makes the plan to remove the bridge for various development projects and a debate started between the local authorities and supporters of Tournai heritage. |

12世紀スペインへのサンジャック・ド・コンポステラの巡礼は今日より重要でありトゥルネーはブリュッセルからパリへの中継点でありました。それがこの教会をサン・ジャックと呼ぶようになった理由です。そのためホタテの印が教会の前にあります。（サン・ジャックの貝はフランス語でホタテを意味します。）

In the twelfth century, the pilgrimage of Saint-Jacques de Compostela was more important than today and Tournai is a step on the way from Brussels to Paris. That's why this chrch was called "Saint-Jacques". Therefore there is a mark of scallop in front of the church. (Saint-Jacques' shell means a scallop in French.) |

 「リール広場」
12時を過ぎたのでグランプラスに行ってランチにします。広場の中央には1832年にアントワープを包囲しオランダ軍を破る前にトゥルネーに入ったフランス軍兵士の記念のため1897年に完成した碑が立っています。

 世界遺産「鐘楼」
鐘楼の建設は1188年頃始まりました。火事や敵に対する見張り塔が役目でした。1294年に拡大する街に合わせ、階を加え角を４つの多角形の塔で補強して鐘楼も拡大しました。兵士の彫像が各塔の頂上に置かれ、竜のアイコンが各彫刻に載せられました。

Construction of the belfry began around 1188. It served in part as a watchtower for spotting fires and enemies. The growing city saw fit to expand the belfry in 1294, raising it by an additional stage, and buttressing its corners with four polygonal towerlets. A soldier statue was placed atop each towerlet, and a dragon icon surmounted the entire structure. |

途中にあるカリヨンの演奏室。1391年の火事は建物に被害を与えました。次の年、街は壊れた鐘に変わる新しい鐘を入手すると共に新しく修理された塔の頂上に金メッキされた男の人魚、旗印、竜の飾りを加えました。カリヨンは1535年に加えられました。

In the following years, the city obtained new bells to replace the ruined ones, and affixed gilded decorations to the newly restored top part of the tower: mermen, banners, and a new dragon. 市庁舎は11世紀から続き1797年に廃止されたベネディクト聖マーチン修道院の一部を使っています。ネオクラシカルなファサードはこの大修道院が建てられた1763年のものです。12世紀の素晴らしいロマネスクの地下室もあります。

12〜13世紀の建物です。1940年に大火にあっています。この教会付近にあるヒルデリヒ王の墓から300匹の黄金の蜜蜂が発見され、ナポレオンの戴冠式のときマントの装飾になったといわれます。
