The magnificent station which makes my desire to travel enhance
is the important caltural asset of the country.

 駅舎内。列車のホームが３階建てになっていて中央吹き抜けから見ることができます。駅舎は1895年から1905年にかけて建設されました。

 「アントワープ」はこの地方に伝わる昔話から
hant(手）＋werpen（投げる）＝ (h)antwerpen と呼ばれるようになったそうです。なので、大きな「手」が歩道の真ん中にあったりするんです。
Antwarp is made up of 2 words, "hant(hand）＋werpen（throw）
＝ (h)antwerpen", based on the old tales of this district.
Therefore there is a big hand in the middle of the sidewalk. |

 画家「ルーベンスの家」
奥にかかっているのは自画像です。イザベラ・ブラントと結婚した1年後の1609年、ルーベンスはイタリアスタイルの家の建築を始めました。彼は彼の作品のPalazzi di Genovaの基礎を作るイタリア・ルネッサンス・王宮建築の勉強基礎に自ら建物のデザインをしました。

庭から見た家です。ルーベンスは人生の大部分をこの場所で過ごし、死後売却されました。市は1937年に購入し、大規模な修繕の後1946年に一般公開しました。ルーベンスによるたくさんの絵画や美術品、当時の家具を含む彼と同時代の品々が収納されています。

This is the house I saw from the garden. Rubens spent most of his lifetime in this palace, and it was only sold after his death. The city bought it in 1937, and after an extensive restoration the Rubenshuis was opened to the public in 1946. Dozens of paintings and artworks by Rubens and his contemporaries were installed in the rooms, as well as period furniture. |

 「フルン広場」
中央は「ルーベンスの銅像」銅像が背にしているのは「ノートルダム大聖堂」（鐘楼が世界遺産）。この後、大聖堂前で知り合いにばったり会いましたー。本当にびっくり。日本に帰る前日だったそうです。

There is "the statue of Rubens" at the central of the park. And "Norte Dame Cathedral" is behind the statue (The belfry is the world heritage site). After that, I run into the acquaintance in front of the cathedral. I was very suprised. She would be back to Japan next day. |

 「ノートルダム大聖堂」にあるルーベンス作「キリストの降架」。フランダースの犬のネロとパトラッシュが見たかった絵のひとつ。
1352年、後にネーデルランドで最も大きなゴシック教会となる新しいノートルダム教会の建設が始まりました。初めは同じ高さの２つの塔ができることになってました。およそ170年後の1521年新教会は完成しました。

In 1352, construction was begun on a new Our Lady’s church which would become the largest Gothic church in the Netherlands. In the beginning, it was to be provided with two towers of equal height. In 1521, after nearly 170 years, the new church of Our Lady was ready. |

 「カフェ クイントン マセイス」内。
１５６０年代、港町として栄えていたアントワープに馬できていた商人のための旅籠だったところだそうです。今はテーブル席になっていますが、当時はここに馬をつないでいたそうです。

They say this is the inn for the merchants who come to Antwerp
where prospered as the port town by horses in the 1560's.
Currently tables are put here, but the horses were tied here at that time.

 「市庁舎」と伝説の英雄「ブラボーの像」。市庁舎の建設は1561年に始まり、1564年に完成しました。

 「ブラボーの像」は当然「手」を「投げて」います。
シルヴィウス・ブラボーは神話上のローマの戦士です。ブラボーはスヘルデ川の橋を渡る人々から金を要求していた巨人ドルオン・アンティゴーンを殺しました。巨人は金を払わない、払えない人の手を切り川に投げ込んでいました。そのためブラボーはその巨人の同様に切って川に投げ込んだそうです。
"The statue of Brabo" throw "the hand" away understandably.
Silvius Brabo is a mythical Roman soldier. Brabo once killed a giant, called Druon Antigoon, who asked money from people who wanted to pass the bridge over the river Scheldt. When they didn't want to or couldn't pay, he cut off their hand and threw it in the river. Because of this Brabo also removed the hand of the giant, and threw it into the river. |
